AMACO C-1 Obsidian From  £13.89

Amaco's brush on Celedon Obsidian is great on its own giving an opaque dense black with great shine, but like all Amaco brush-ons I've used you need to apply 3 x good coats to get a good result.
Obsidian really comes into its own when used as a base layer for other Amaco glazes. See the Amaco website for great hints and tips, but if you use it in layers you still need to apply these glazes heavily to make the colours 'float' and sing.

This is my go to glaze for a base layer when layering Amaco glazes. Generally use 2 decent coats as a base and build up other colours on top. Never lets me down and also thanks to the Scarva team for great sales and technical advise on products

I use a college kiln so have no control over the firing of my work. The college fires their stoneware electric kiln to around cone 9. This glaze, when applied as 3 or 4 generous layers, gives a stable glossy black finish on Scarva ES5 white stoneware clay. Very happy with this glaze and have ordered a 2nd pot.
