AMACO Velvet underglazes if left unglazed they have the appearance of velvet. They will intensify in colour when covered with a Clear Transparent or Gloss glaze. The Velvets are very rich colours and can be used for an all over coverage. They fire true to colour when applied from the jar and may be intermixed to create a palette of hundreds of colours. The colours may be brushed on greenware which is to be bisque fired before applying a covering glaze or on bisqueware, then a covering glaze applied. For opaque coverage by brushing, the consistency of the colour in the jar is correct. Velvets have a wide firing range 1040°C - 1220°C, they are also Lead Free.

Hi, When I apply underglaze, sometimes it is brittle and the glaze doesn’t settle. Is it because the underglaze was applied too thickly or should it be bisque fired again before adding glaze?
Carole from United Kingdom
Yes possibly the vessel is saturated with moisture so the adhesive is compromised. In most cases once the underglaze is dry you can apply a transparent glaze immediately but I think in this case it would be worthwhile trying to bisque fire in between and see if you have a more successful outcome.
