9224 Aventurine

BOTZ earthenware glazes are available ready to use in 200ml jars. Stir the glaze thoroughly and apply 2 – 3 coats. The glaze soon dries allowing the pots to be lifted into the kiln. For best results allow the glaze to dry for a day before firing.

Results will vary depending on thickness of glaze, clay applied, shape of vessel and final firing temperature.

The ideal firing temperature is around 1040°C with a 30 minute soak.

Glaze finish: Glossy

  • Reddish-brown glaze with glitter effects
  • Very interesting on dark clay
  • Apply 2-3 times, but caution: Runs strongly
  • Has a tendency to crackle
  • Shows lively effects when applied unequally

Have used this quite a few times always with very pleasing results. 3 coats gives a very deep, dark, even copper colour; 2 coats gives more variation, with more amber notes, as in the picture. I have been experimenting with a transparent under glaze which is giving a wonderful mix of caramel colours. Overall, very happy with this glaze.

Very nice glaze
I applied two coats to mature bisque with clear glaze over. Very pleased with the results.Darker than expected but,I think better for the pieces involved on grogged clay.Lovely effect.

Hello Can you tell me whether I can use this glaze at a firing temperature of 920? I realise the optimum temp is higher but wondeed what the effect at a lower temperature would be. Thanks
Jeanne from France
You could try it however it is very low and the end result will be different. It simply will not melt and stay quite matt, hope this helps.

Can this glaze be brushed on? Thanks
Alex from United Kingdom
Hi, yes - this is a brush on glaze, all Botz glazes are brush-on. Hope this helps!

Hallo. What is max firing temp that these glazes will take? What would be effect on red earthenware clay? Thanks, Gordon Rice
Gordon from United Kingdom
The maximum temperature of the Botz Earthenware range is around 1060oC however if the glaze is matt or satin you could push it a little higher to around 1100oC. All samples shown are fired on white clay. You can fire these glazes on terracotta, the colour may be effected slightly as it is a darker clay as always testing is the best practice.
