Two-Finger Mug Handle Forms

Want to make a mug handle that creates the perfect comfortable grip?

Our Two-Finger Mug Handle Form has been designed in collaboration with Joe Thompson at 'Old Forge Creations'. The stepped D-shape of the Handle Form enables you to make an ergonomic, two-finger handle grip. Fingers naturally lock into place around the handle, while exerting minimal grip strength.

These Two-Finger Mug Handle Forms are made from 30mm thick MDF, enabling you to make a good, sturdy, reliable width of handle. The longest part of the form is 72mm. Sold in Sets of 5.

How to use the Hartley & Noble Mug Handle Pottery Form:

  • This form is designed for making mug handles separately from the mug body. It helps you to create a consistent shape and size more easily and quickly.
  • Pull, extrude or cut your handles as you normally would.
  • Once you have the desired number of handles, drape them over the Mug Handle Pottery Forms.
  • Allow them to dry to leather hard consistency (aim to match the dryness to that of the mug body).
  • Trim and shape to desired finish - using the Pottery Form as a guide.
  • Score and slip the ends as per standard technique, and then attach the handle to the mug body.
  • Cover with plastic for 24 hours and dry slowly/evenly to keep the dryness between the mug and the handle as equal as possible.
  • If you want to make a different shaped handle you can use this Pottery Form as a drying aid and then apply the handle to the mug body at a slightly damper consistency, allowing for a degree of manual shape manipulation
