Slab rollers are invaluable pieces of equipment as they allow the exploration of a whole new dimension in ceramic design and creation. The smooth and steady rolling ability of Roderveld machines is the result of smart, roller-holder design including a system of self-lubricating ball-bearings, rollers, tracks, spindles and steel cable. The Table Top Slabroller (no legs), can be used on a table and is easily stowed away when not in use. This model is mounted on soft pads to prevent it from slipping during use. The Table Top Slabroller is ideal for use in the smaller studio. Thickness of clay slabs are adjusted by the use of wooden boards. The top board is covered with canvas so clay does not stick to it. The minimum thickness a slab can be rolled to is 3mm, the maximum thickness is 3cm. The advantage of using the Roderveld wooden board system is that the clay is handled as little as possible; once the clay slab is rolled it can easily be transferred. Simply lift the canvas board with the freshly rolled clay slab out of the slabroller then lay a wooden board on top, lift everything and holding tightly flip upside down leaving your canvas board free to roll more slabs. Meanwhile the freshly rolled slab has no finger-marks or has lost any of its clay memory ready for you to slice up, shape and work with. “I have worked with lots of slabrollers over the years and found the Roderveld Jumbo Junior to be superior in terms of its versatility, robustness and ease of use, a must have for any studio potter.”
