Scarva Earthstone ES130G White Earthenware Grogged Clay From  £20.33

I love this clay! I've been using it for a few years now. It's great for hand-building. It has taken all the decoration techniques and different types of glazes I've used extremely well.

This is an excellent clay for hand building and comes out nice and white. I currently mix it 50/50 with ES130 to get a stronger body for throwing larger items.

I find that both this clay and the ES130 bisc fire to maturity at 1120 degrees celsius, of course that just might be my kiln! Doing this has stopped the shivering on my rims and handles. The only other thing that causes shivering on the rims and handles for me is leaving red or yellow slip on them before bisc firing. Other colours on the edges don't suffer from shivering. Leaning as I go.

Delivered in a black bin liner with a hole in lt, twice as big as the normal bag.

It was too stiff to throw. Had to rework with water before use.

I have had shivering twice using glazes in their recommended range . Once I bisque fired to 1100, then glaze fired at 1040,:the second time I single fired ton1100. The firing range given is 1060 - 1220, but the comment is the clay matures between those two temperatures. As I am getting shivering I assume the clay has NOT matured, and the firing range given is misleading. I will now retest at a higher temperature.
