Scarva Earthstone Professional PF520 Ashraf Hanna Raku Clay Body
Firing Temp 900-1300ºC
PF520
The very best white raku body on the market. With over 58% molochite, this body can withstand the most extreme thermal shock. This is due to both the high alumina plastic ball clay and the three different grades of molochite. This body has very low shrinkage, a medium texture and is highly resistant to warping and cracking.

Excellent service - excellent clay!
I love this clay - it always behaves consistently, and is lovely to work with. I have used it for many years - ever since I first met Ashraf Hanna at a ceramics fair in 2009. I have to say too that I was greatly impressed by the service I received from Scarva. I was expecting to have to wait (albeit impatienly!) for a lot longer than 4 days for it to arrive!

The best!!
This clay can handle everything!! I make both very fine, extremely thin handbuild vases(3 - 5mm) , and thicker items (4 - 5 cm) using this clay. It does not need to dry slowly, you do not have to cover it up while drying. I usually leave the finished vase to dry for two days and then a drying program in the kiln, ex 100 degrees for 6 hours. It can then be fired at day 3 without cracking. I always singlefire, nothing have ever broken in the firering. It is magical!

Yes this body is suitable for throwing it does contain alot of grogg so will feel a little more coarse than a regular throwing clay.

Is the Ashraf Hanna raku clay good for hanbuilding large sculptural pieces. I used to use a great raku clay for handbuilding in Australia and am looking for a similar, forgiving handbuilding clay in the UK for my sculptural work.
Joanna Wakefield from United Kingdom
Yes it is an excellent clay for handbuilding large work.

can i put Terracolor 630A Bronze Matt on this clay body. The glaze says stoneware but I think this clay is in the firing range for it?
chantal Powell from United Kingdom
Hi, due to the high percentage of molochite in this body it is unlikely that the 630A glaze will work - I suspect it will craze badly. Hope this helps!

What crackle glaze will be suitable to use on this clay for raku?
Thanks
Chantal from United Kingdom
Hi there,
Take a look at Scarva Nano Colours Earthenware crackle glazes.
Scarva Team
Hello
Could you tell me what transparent glaze is a good fit for this clay.
Thank you 🙏🏽
Karen from United Kingdom
Hi there - depends on what temperature you are firing to.
If earthenware: DG6224

If stoneware: GZ2160

Is this water tight clay? E.g. mugs?
Mary from United Kingdom
Hi there, it would be water tight if vitrified which requires firing at 1220 minimum. Hope this helps.
Scarva Team
will cone5/6 glazes work well with this clay for slab built mugs?
Anna from Kuwait
Hi there, they will craze a lot due to the body being heavily grogged. It would need very low expansion glazes. You could try our GZ2160 transparent, and colour it with stain. Hope this helps.
Scarva Team
Would the Amaco Satin Matt range of glazes or the PC glazes work on this clay?
Anne from United Kingdom
Hi there, they would craze a lot due to the heavily grogged nature of the body.
Scarva Team
Can the clay be mixed with another stoneware clay?
Jennifer from United Kingdom
Hi there, yes it can!
Scarva Team
Is this clay ok up to 1300C as other suppliers have listed up to 1280C
I'd like to try wood-firing it - will it be ok for this purpose?
Rachelle from United Kingdom
Yes it will withstand 1300oC, hope this helps.
Scarva Team
Can be fired in a electric kiln?
Stef from United Kingdom
Hi, yes this can be fired in an electric kiln no problem. Hope this helps!
Scarva Team
Hi, could you advise a firing schedule for bisque firing this clay to 1140 please
