Firing Temp 1200-1300ºC PF560 A strong fine-grained plastic clay formulated from the purest of white ball clays. This superior body has very smooth throwing characteristics. It has been developed for the professional production potter and with good thermal shock properties is excellent for domestic ware. It stands up extremely well and fires to an off white colour. It fires well in both oxidising and reduction atmospheres.

Easy to use for all types of ceramics
I use this for slab and throwing. It reminds me of porcelain to throw with. Lovely plastic clay. Holds its form well with little water.

Is this clay suitable for hand moulding? I'm planning to make coil pots at home and take them to be glazed and fire at a professional pottery. Is this clay suitable for this purpose? thanks.
kate from United Kingdom
Yes this is suitable for hand moulding however it is very smooth I have found when coiling a body with grog works better like our ES60 Smooth Textured Crank or if you wanted a white body our ES20 Smooth textured handbuilding body, hope this helps.

Will this be ok to fire with cone 5-6 glazes or do I need to go higher to vitrify?
Sarah from United Kingdom
Yes cone 5-6 glazes will work well on this clay body.

Hi, may I ask : at what lower temperature can I firstly put a piece made out of this clay, in the kiln? When the temperature displays 1200-1300°, does it mean that the second or the first firing needs to be this high? Thanks in advance
Nikita from United Kingdom
Your first firing or bisque firing is normally to 1000oC degrees. After glazing using a suitable stoneware glaze you can fire between 1200-1300oC depending on the melting point of the glaze. Hope this helps.

Can you glaze this clay at 1050°c or will it not be properly cured?
Nicola from United Kingdom
Hi, this is a stoneware body so it will not be vitrified at this temperature, you may also have issues around glaze fit at this temp. Hope this helps
Scarva Team
Does it contain grog? If yes, what is the percentage and size.
Othman from Kuwait
No this clay is smooth and does not contain any grog.

Can you tell me Where the clay is sourced from?
Lynn from United Kingdom
Hi there, it is a manufactured body made with ingredients sourced primarily in the south west of England.
Scarva Team
Could you tell me the shrinkage % of your 560 clay. I have been given a teapot that needs a lid. So not sure what % I need to a to the new lid to make sure it will fit. Many thanks Trevor
Trevor Bradley from United Kingdom
Hi there, it's 12% at 1200.
Scarva Team
I have been given a bag of the white stoneware PF560, which you advise is smooth and ideal for throwing. As a hand builder could I add some grog to this to make it more suitable for hand building with! Thanks. 😊
Jo from United Kingdom
Yes feel free to add some grog to this clay body.
