Is this clay suitable for hand moulding?
I'm planning to make coil pots at home and take them to be glazed and fire at a professional pottery.
Is this clay suitable for this purpose?
thanks.

Yes this is suitable for hand moulding however it is very smooth I have found when coiling a body with grog works better like our ES60 Smooth Textured Crank or if you wanted a white body our ES20 Smooth textured handbuilding body, hope this helps.

Hi, may I ask : at what lower temperature can I firstly put a piece made out of this clay, in the kiln? When the temperature displays 1200-1300°, does it mean that the second or the first firing needs to be this high? Thanks in advance

Your first firing or bisque firing is normally to 1000oC degrees. After glazing using a suitable stoneware glaze you can fire between 1200-1300oC depending on the melting point of the glaze. Hope this helps.

Can you glaze this clay at 1050°c or will it not be properly cured?
Scarva Replies:

Hi, this is a stoneware body so it will not be vitrified at this temperature, you may also have issues around glaze fit at this temp. Hope this helps

I have been given a bag of the white stoneware PF560, which you advise is smooth and ideal for throwing. As a hand builder could I add some grog to this to make it more suitable for hand building with! Thanks. 😊
