Scarva Nano Colours NSM038 Silk Matt Malibu
Another new addition to the Nano range are these beautiful silk matt glazes. Developed after requests from our customers who were looking for vibrant, satin glazes that could be used on a variety of clay bodies with a wide firing range. The glazes below are the result of development in the Scarva lab, they are best fired between 1040° and 1120°C, the higher they are fired the more they will fuse going from a soft matt at the lower temperature to a beautiful satin sheen as the firing temperature goes up. We recommend firing to 1060°C with a 15 minute soak. These glazes are available in both powder and brush on forms and are lead free and non-toxic.

Hi, is this glaze tableware safe?
Thanks,
Ay
Ayliffe from United Kingdom
If a glaze is food safe or not depends on several factors including the type of clay used, the firing temperature, the shape of the vessel, the thickness of glaze even the position of the vessel in the kiln can have an effect. Ideally a food safe test would be carried out by a reputable body like Lucideon. In the case of the glaze mentioned it is low firing which makes it a little bit more tricky to make functional tableware as the clay body will still be porous, unless you do a high bisque and low glaze then it is difficult to get the glaze to stick to the vessel. It is easier to choose higher firing temperature glazes and a suitable clay body to be honest.
