Scarva Raw Materials Gerstley Borate RM1029
A variety of colemanite, a naturally occurring mineral, specially imported by us from the USA.
Mentioned in many American text books, this is a popular flux in studio glazes.
Formula: 2CaO 3B2O3, 5H2O

Excellent, but still experimenting
I work mainly with stoneware, using stains and oxides and have found that colours fade when fired at high temperatures. When Gerstly borate is added to clay it becomes watertight when fired to only 950 C, enabling the colours to remain bright. However, adding the correct percentage has become a matter of trial and error.

What sort of packaging would this be shipped in at 5 or 10 kilos?
Alice from United Kingdom
It would be packed in a clear plastic bag, hope this helps.

This is actually Gerstley Borate, not Gillespie Borate, correct?
Bob from United Kingdom
