Scarva Studio Decorating Slip SDS01 - OrcaScarva Studio Decorating Slips have been primarily developed for use under the Scarva Studio line of Glazes. However, they can still be used on their own as a traditional decorating slip and can be mixed to create new and interesting colour palettes. The slips have a wide firing range of between 1000 – 1300°C bearing in mind that temperature will affect the final colour. Generally speaking, the higher the slips are fired the more vivid their appearance will become. These slips work wonderfully when used as a base coat under the Scarva Studio Reactive range of cone 5/6 glazes and can be seen under the thickness and layering tab of each of those products.
Hi, I bought the decorating slip in orca, I used it on leather hard white clay for a sgraffito dish but when bisque fired has come out grey. Can you advise me what I’m doing wrong? I take it it’s suitable for bisque firing?
Jane from Northern Ireland
Hi, the colour darkens when you fire it higher - i.e. during your glaze firing the colour will become more apparent. The transparent glaze you use also will have a bearing on the colour. Hope this makes sense!
