How much water do I need to add to the powder to make a dipping glaze please?

Mix approximately 700-800mls of water to 1000grams of glaze, pass through a fine sieve then adjust if necessary to a thin cream consistency.

Could this glaze be used on other clays instead of porcelain fired to 1200°C? Many thanks

You can but the colours will differ, the porcelain clay is very white and gives excellent bright vivid colours the trouble with using a body like stoneware for example the colours may look muted and dirty, hope this helps.

Hello. do have to set the cooling segments after reaching required temperature or i can leave on natural cooling. And which is the foodsafe temperature you suggest thank you.

Hi,
You can let this cool naturally. We'd recommend firing this glaze to cone 7 on a suitable porcelain body.

I have never made a dipping glaze up before, can you tell me how much liquid glaze I would have if I bought say 2.5kg?

2.5 kilos of powdered glaze will make up approximately 2.5 Litres of glaze.

Are scarva glazes GZ2306 and GZ2311 suitable (safe) for food containers?

If a glaze is food safe our not depends on several factors including the type of clay used, the firing temperature, the shape of the vessel, the thickness of glaze even the position of the vessel in the kiln can have an effect on the glaze. Ideally a food safe test would be carried out by a reputable body like British Ceram. In the case of the two glazes mentioned the crackle glaze GZ2311 would not pass a food safe test as bacteria can get into the cracks. The GZ2306 would most likely pass a food safe test providing it was fired on a suitable body like our ES120 Ming Porcelain in an electric kiln and to the suggested temperatures.

Works in oxidising atmospheres. Very durable only suitable for use on porcelain clays.
