Scarva Parian Casting Slip From  £10.35

I love the white Parian. I find it more translucent and a better surface than porcelain. It does slump/ warp a bit and I’m finding that setters are very hard to release. Does anyone have a recommendation for the high fire programme? What ramps and soaks to use to help with any distortion? It really is beautiful stuff!

I have found that the Parian casting slip is by far the easiest porcelain to cast with. It is a self glazing clay so once fired it has a slight shine/shimmer to it. It is fine to go straight onto the kiln shelf, however, does stick to it's own body if slabs are placed on top of one another during the firing. It is a slightly off-white colour in comparison to other porcelains.

I have used the Parian ware casting slip to make tealight holders. The greenware pot was fired to 1220c during a glaze firing for other wares and the result was fantastic. Smooth to touch and so translucent when the tealight is lit. A beautiful product to work with.

Really good material to work with. I fire to 1236 which gives a sheen to the ware. As Beth says you can fire straight to the kiln shelf.
