Scarva Raw Materials Flint RM1027 From £1.51
Highly refractory and non-plastic, flint is a major source of silica in all types of clay body (15%). It increases firing temperature and reduces plasticity and shrinkage. It may be added in small quantities to prepared bodies to eliminate crazing. A major source of silica in all types of glaze (it is the glass forming ingredient), its characteristics of low expansion and contraction stabilise the glaze and minimise any risk of crazing. Adding flint to a glaze raises its firing temperature.

Sue de United Kingdom asks
Hi, i am about to try making up my own glaze for the first time but need to order up the materials. I am looking at raw materials for a leach talc dolomite glaze. My list of ingredients includes ‘quartz(flint)’ You have both , slightly different prices but the same chemical formula.. Are they the same under different names ? ? Thanks Sue 🤔
