 These wooden taps are made from ash and maple. They are designed specifically for use on pottery and incorporate a flange that hinges most of the cork collar used to fit the tap to the jar. Turned components are sealed with two coats of a durable, clear, food-grade lacquer and then polished. The taps are assembled with a wax-lubricated cork gasket between spindle and body to ensure smooth drip-free operation.When fitting the taps it is important to fit the cork collar to the jar first, then push the tap into the collar. cork collars can be softened by placing them in boiling water for a few minutes. Wooden taps are normally used with cold liquids, and although they can be used with hot liquids, their working life will be considerably shortened.
