Issue 290 March/April 2018

A strong theme emerged while we were compiling our March/April issue– as you can probably guess from the front cover, we’ve become obsessed with teapots! From Ian McIntyre’s re-engineering of the classic Brown Betty, and emerging maker Matthew Warner’s elegant Wedgwood-inspired teapots, to Ruthanne Tudball’s Masterclass on making her distinctive soda-glazed teapots, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. With Ceramic Art London (CAL) returning to Central Saint Martins from 23 to 25 March, we profile a selection of overseas exhibitors who are taking part for the first time this year. We also catch up with Lauren Nauman, the winner of our Newcomer to Ceramic Art London Award 2017, who has had a busy year making and exhibiting. We uncover her innovative technique and discuss her creative process and career to date. Lauren will be exhibiting at CAL again this year, alongside our other profiled artist Midori Takaki. Also launching in March this year is the ambitious exhibition Things of Beauty Growing: British Studio Pottery, which transfers from the Yale Center for British Art in North America to the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge; co-curator Simon Olding reflects on the aims and objectives of the exhibition. So pour yourself a cup of tea, get comfortable and enjoy the latest Ceramic Review.
