The UK's No.1 Pottery Supplier

Firing Temp 1180-1300ºC PF700 For some time now we have been asked by our customers to develop a superior, white, porcelain-like clay which is more reliable and easier to work with than a porcelain body. Porcelain bodies are harder to work with due to their lack of plasticity and are more likely to crack, warp or shrink than stoneware bodies. PF700 is not as translucent as porcelain, unless in very thin cross-sections at high temperatures. It is however, just as white, has all the qualities of a good stoneware body and produces porcelain-like results at a lower cost. PF 700 has been formulated from the purest, highest quality white clays to give a porcelain-like appearance but without the difficulties that working with porcelain can create.

Great for throwing
I really like this clay, have only tried a sample 1kg. It's soft, smooth qualities make it great to throw with and fires to a lovely soft white when fired to cone 7 in electric kiln will definitely be buying more. I think this is my favourite clay so far.

Superb clay
This is a superb clay, so easy to throw, probably better for someone not just starting out throwing clay. Very easy to centre and make beautiful shapes. Highly recommended from me an amateur potter.

Hi, just wondering if there is a recommended drying time pre firing? Thanks a Million
conall from Ireland
Drying time will depend on how small or big your piece is and the ambient room temperature most work takes around 3-4 days but this can always be slowed down by wrapping in plastic if so desired, there are no pre-defined rules and every piece can be different. In order to determine if a piece is dry simply feel it; if it feels cold it still contains moisture and requires further drying, if it feels warm it is dry and ready to be fired in the kiln.

Hello! I was wondering if you had any recommendations as to a transparent glaze particularly suited to this clay? Thank you!
Sophia from United Kingdom
Our GZ2150 Multi purpose transparent is a good combination.

Hello, I was wondering if this clay is suitable for handbuilding? Many thanks!
Brenda from United Kingdom
You can handbuild with this clay however it is quite fine so you may be restricted in terms of how large you can make, hope this helps.
Scarva Team
Could you please tell me if this might be suitable for creating drinking vessels, i.e. food safety-wise.
Sean from United Kingdom
Providing the body is fired to maturing temperature and with a suitable glaze it is ideal for tableware.
Scarva Team

What is the shrinkage on this clay?
Gillian from United Kingdom
Hi, Approx 8% at cone 5. Hope this helps!
Scarva Team
Is it suitable for using as a casting slip?
Zsofia from United Kingdom
You could turn this clay into a casting slip by adding some sodium silicate and water yes however it would take some preparation to do this.
Scarva Team
Hi. Is the shrinkage similar to stoneware or almost as much as porcelain? Thank you
Marc from Switzerland
Hi, no this clay body has a much lower shrinkage rate than traditional porcelains, in our testing it's around 8-9% at cone 8. Hope this helps!
Scarva Team
Please could you tell me the bisque firing temperature for PF700 porcelain white stoneware? Many thanks.
Gill from United Kingdom
We recommend bisque firing all our clay bodies to 1000°C.
Scarva Team
Please could you tell me what temperature PF700 Porcelain White Stoneware should be glaze fired at? Is 1220°C too low? Thank you!
Gill from United Kingdom
1220°C is an ideal temperature however you would be best deciding the final firing temperature based on the glaze opposed to the clay this will ensure the glaze is fully matured giving better results.
