Is this pure iron oxide, or does it have something else mixed in?
Curtis from United Kingdom
This is just red iron oxide.

Is this synthetic or mineral RIO?
Les Reed from Ireland
This is natural FeO, you can find synthetic red iron under the code RM1311

Is it possible to add these oxides to the clay directly to colour the clay, instead of adding stains? If so what percentage by weight would you add to the (say bone dry) clay body?
MC from United Kingdom
Hi, you can however you will get better results using stain. Using oxides to colour clay bodies can result in volatile glaze reactions down the line. I would suggest experimenting at ~1% if you still want to try it. Hope this helps!
