Can I colour the white decorating slip with mason stains?
Réponses de Scarva:

Yes however I would recommend using our HFC High Firing Stains or Nano Colour Stains as I have found you achieve a stronger colour response.

Can I apply the slip right down to the base of the pot, or will the slip then stick to the kiln shelf? Thanks Chris
Réponses de Scarva:
|
Decorating slips are similar to a clay body and can be applied all over a piece, they will not melt enough to stick to the kiln shelf, hope this helps.

Is the white slip actually white so that you can see what colour you will get if you add a coloured stain?
Réponses de Scarva:

Yes it fires white, it is cream in colour before it is fired.

If I want to create more relief with design, how can I thicken the pre-made slip? Is there anything I can add?
Réponses de Scarva:
|
Hi, the best way to thicken the slip would be to dehydrate it rather than through adding anything. Take some and place it in a conatiner and leave exposed to the air for a while, give it a stir every now and again until you've got the consistency you need. Hope this helps!

Hi can these be fired straight away to cone 3 ?.Im finding reverse firing (ie fire to vitrification on first firing,in order to then apply a lower fire glaze on the second firing of cone 04) really works for me ,but I've not used slips in this way yet
Réponses de Scarva:
|
Yes any of our decorating slips may be used for this application, hope this helps.

Can the Scarva decorating slip be added to a piece already bisque fired? I want to brush a thin wash of this slip to my bisqued sculpture then cover with a matt white to fire to cone 6.
Réponses de Scarva:
|
Its hard to say without testing first. Factors which will effect the outcome are the clay shrinkage, thickness applied and shape of the vessel. What you are trying to do is not common practice but please let us know how it turns out, Good luck!
