Hi,
Can you colour this glaze with a suitable stain, if so what ratio stain to glaze powder would you recommend?
Réponses de Scarva:
|
Yes you can use our range of Nano Colour Stains, the percentage will vary for each colour but 8% is normal for most colours the only exception is dark blues and greens which will only require 2% and black 6%. This will produce opaque colours if you want more suttle colours simply lower the percentage, hope this helps.

Hi there is this glaze suitable with your porcelain casting slip ? , I’m planning on raw glazing by lightly spraying the glaze and firing it to around 1240 with a 20 min soak . Many thanks
Réponses de Scarva:

Yes this glaze will work however you would normally get best results from applying to bisqueware.

Hi,
I have already glazed some porcelain pieces with the Scarva delft blue stoneware glaze. I left some parts unglazed and fired this in the kiln. Would I be able to glaze the whole piece with this clear glaze on top of the existing delft blue glaze, or would I have to just paint on the transparent glaze onto the previously non glazed part of the piece.
Thank you!
Réponses de Scarva:
|
I think it would be best to just apply glaze onto the unglazed bits, if you glaze the whole piece it may react badly with the other glaze on the other hand it may create an interesting effect, you would be best doing a test before committing.

Hello,
I am using this glaze for my slip casting pieces cast out of Scarva porcelain slip. I can't figure out what I do wrong, but I have developed the problem with pin holing in the glaze. It also crawls (bold patches) of the the rim no matter if the rim is very thin or thick. The problem is worse on the thicker rims. It also seems that the bold patches appear where the inside glaze meets the outside glaze (all the same glaze). I bisque fire my pieces to 860 C. I fire the glaze to 1260c with 20 minute soak.
Thank you.

Hi
Thank you for your question, I think most of your problems are coming from having a low bisque firing, if possible increase this to 1000oC. This will help the work be more porous and should get rid of the problems you are having. Hope this helps.

Hi
Is this glaze safe to use on food/drink items?
Réponses de Scarva:
|
If a glaze is food safe our not depends on several factors including the type of clay used, the firing temperature, the shape of the vessel, the thickness of glaze even the position of the vessel in the kiln can have an effect on the glaze. Ideally a food safe test would be carried out by a reputable testing company. In the case of the glaze mentioned it would most likely pass a food safe test providing it was fired on a suitable body like our ES120 Ming Porcelain in an electric kiln and to the suggested temperatures.
