Love!
Really like this glaze, found it more matt than satin, beautiful colour!

I took notice of the previous review and fired this at Cone 6 but the glaze didn't mature and, although the colour was as pictured, the glaze was dry and scratchy. For me, the glaze was definitely better fired higher, at Cone 7, when the glaze fired as pictured. Love the colour but it is more matt than I realised.

Hello, I love this glaze. However, although I use the recommended clay bodies and fire it to the recommended temperature, it turns out very matte (which I love!). Unfortunately, this is what concerns me about the food safety of this glaze. Is this glaze food safe if it has a matte finish?
Ruth from Ireland
If a glaze is food safe or not depends on several factors including the type of clay used, the firing temperature, the shape of the vessel, the thickness of glaze, even the position of the vessel in the kiln can have an effect on the glaze. Ideally a food safe test would be carried out by a reputable body like British Ceram. In the case of the glaze mentioned it would most likely pass a food safe test as it is lead free however the most suitable glazes for functional ware are stoneware and glossy fired in an electric kiln and to the suggested temperatures. I hope you can appreciate that Scarva is in no position to say if a product is food safe or not and we can only give recommendations. Hope this helps.

Hi, Are the Terracolor Stoneware Brush-on glazes food safe? Thanks!
lulu from United States
This is a difficult question to answer and in turn leads to several other questions. If a glaze is food safe our not depends on several factors including the type of clay used, the firing temperature, the shape of the vessel, the thickness of glaze even the position of the vessel in the kiln can have an effect on the glaze. Ideally a food safe test would be carried out by a reputable body like British Ceram. The Terracolor Stoneware Brush-on glazes would most likely pass a food safety test provided they were fired on a suitable body like our ES5 Earthstone Orginal in an electric kiln and to the suggested temperatures. Hope this helps.
