Q&A (2)
Smokey Merlot is a warm, dark purple glaze with a soft float of lilac over the surface. This glaze looks stunning on smooth surfaces, over textured surfaces, and layered with our other Potters Choice glazes.
Due to the powdered nature of the materials involved with the dry-mix dipping buckets of this product, their respective health information and labels differ from the brushing glazes.
Safety Warning
Tableware producers must test all finished ware to establish dinnerware status, due to possible variations in firing temperature and contamination.

This gives a lovely rich purple which breaks over texture or gives a lovely smooth finish where there is no texture. Like all Amaco brush ons you need to apply heavily to make the colour come through. Three generous coats applied in alternate directions works well. This glaze is also really good when layered with other Amaco cone 5/6 glazes. I particularly like 2 or 3 x Obsidian with 3 x Smokey Merlot over - it is a beautiful opaque bright purple. Have a look at the Amaco website and/or the FaceBook group Amaco cone 5/6 exchange for lots of advice and tips.

What kind of result will you get just firing to cone 4.
Scarva Replies:
These glazes have quite a wide firing range so should still work okay worse case it may be a little bit more matt.

Can this glaze be brushed on?
Also how will it react to other potters choice glazes if they are layered or overlap for example?
Scarva Replies:
Hi! Yes, this is a brush on glaze - you can use Amaco's layering resource by copying and pasting the following link - https://www.amaco.com/glazes-and-underglazes/layering
Hope this helps!
